EVA Airways is a Taiwanese international airline based at Taoyuan International Airport. In September 1988, during the 20th-anniversary celebration of Evergreen Marine Corporation’s founding, company chairman Chang Yung Fa announced his company’s dream. He aspired to establish Taiwan’s first international private airline. However, after the Taiwanese government decided to improve the nation’s air transportation system, the opportunity to establish Taiwan’s first airline arose. Therefore, government requirements still dictate global experience and financial capital. Not to mention, any company seeking permission to initiate international airline service for Taiwan must meet these criteria. Later, in October 1989, the newly formed Eva Airways Corporation placed a $3.6 billion order with Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. In fact, they ordered a total of 26 aircraft, including the Boeing 747-400 and MD-11 airlines.

Operation

On July 1, 1991, operations began with a very small fleet of Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with business and economy class seating. Bangkok, Seoul, Jakarta, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur were the first destinations from Taipei. However, these 767s were recently painted, slightly different from the standard livery adopted in 1992. Hence, by the end of the year, Eva’s air network had expanded to include additional East stages as well as its first European destination, Vienna. As a result, first year revenues reached US$40 million.

● In November 2015, Eva Air revealed a new uniform on its Boeing 777 -300 ER.
● Eva Airways was one of eleven airlines to receive a 5-star rating from Skytrax in November 2016.
● On August 24, 2017, Eva Air released its third generation uniform, designed by fashion house Shiatzy Chen.
● On October 2, 2018, Eva Air took delivery of its four Boeing 787-9 dream liners.
● In 2019, Eva Air took delivery of its first of 20 Boeing 787-10 dream liners.
